A trip home for the annual Family Cricket match

Nothing says British summer like a cricket match, especially when it’s set on our home turf in the English countryside. Though we committed the cardinal sin of playing without cricket whites (I know—scandalous!), we had all the essentials: a well-prepped pitch, pints in hand, and the high hopes that the sun would stay put. True to English form, the weather had other plans. It was sunny but windy and just cold enough to remind us that British summer is anything but predictable.

We kicked things off in the chilly breeze, but if anything, the weather only added to the fun. We huddled up between innings, hands wrapped around warm cups of tea (and the occasional pint) laughing about the close calls and cheering each boundary like it was a test match. The family dogs even got in on the action, darting across the pitch like mini fielders, determined to join in the game.

From landing at Heathrow, to hanging with family prior to the match, the intense grounds prep and throughout the cricketing day, I tried to capture the “Britishness” of it all.

Cheers to a classic British summer day—blustery winds and all,

Steve

Originally from England, I graduated from the University of Gloucestershire with a degree in fashion and editorial photography. After college I moved to London to start my photographic career and shot for BBC Television, Virgin Atlantic and other clients. After six years of working in London and before life got too serious, I left England for the most amazing years of my life traveling the world (I never went home). I have 20 years of experience working in almost every aspect of the industry, I'm a father of three and love to photograph people and especially kids. I'm based on the East coast of the USA between Miami and New York (I live on a plane). I'm at home shooting in studio, on the beach (preferably on an island with fruity drinks), in zero gravity, and everything in between.
