From Break Room to Pro Portrait
The Art of Workplace Portraits
Not every corporate headshot session happens in a spacious studio with perfect lighting and endless setup options. More often than not, I’m working in real-world office spaces—break rooms, conference rooms, and wherever else we can carve out a functional shooting area. Recently, I took on one of these challenges while creating portraits for Ernst & Young.
The space? A 10’ x 12’ break room. The obstacles? Limited room for lights, furniture that needed moving, and the ever-present challenge of making sure the final images didn’t look like they were shot next to a fridge full of lunch leftovers. The key to making it work? Adaptability, creative problem-solving, and a sharp eye for finding the best possible light.
After clearing out clutter, adjusting angles, and making the most of a well-placed window, the final portraits looked polished and professional—exactly what was needed. Shoots like this remind me why I love what I do. The perfect setup isn’t always handed to you, but with the right approach, you can create incredible results anywhere.
