From Dock to Depths
Capturing a Unique Portrait for the Journal of Corporate Renewal
When the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) reached out about photographing their next “Snapshots” feature for the Journal of Corporate Renewal, I knew this wouldn’t be a typical corporate portrait session. The focus? Showcasing their featured member, Zach Hyman, outside of the office, highlighting his hobbies and interests in a way that felt dynamic and personal. The catch? Zach’s passion is scuba diving.
Underwater photography wasn’t expected, but when someone is excited about their hobby, why not embrace the challenge? We started on the dock, capturing clean, natural shots with boats in the background—something polished yet relaxed. Then, we stepped it up. Out on the water, Zach stood on the bow of a boat, geared up in full scuba attire, before leaping into the ocean, making for a striking action shot.
But the most memorable moment? A completely unexpected underwater portrait. Sitting at the bottom of a pool, dressed in a full business suit, Zach worked on a laptop as if he were in an office—except for the bubbles rising around him. It was the perfect blend of corporate meets creativity.
And let’s talk about Zach—turns out he’s a complete legend. With a great sense of humor and an easygoing attitude, he was all in for every idea, making the shoot even more fun. That kind of enthusiasm makes all the difference in a session like this.
TMA loved the final images, and honestly, so did I. It’s always a win when a shoot pushes creative boundaries and results in something fresh, fun, and completely unique.
