A Family Road Trip on 120 Film: Old-School Memories in an Airstream 290
What better way to shoot 120 film than from the seat of an Airstream 290, cruising through the Carolinas, Virginia, Tennessee, and the mountains? My family and I hit the road, camera bags packed, ready to see what adventures the open road would throw at us. The Airstream was the perfect match for a 120 film project—it felt like we’d stepped back in time in all the best ways.
Shooting film on this trip had a special kind of magic. Like in Colonial Williamsburg, the deliberate pace of using 120 film made every moment feel more intentional. Whether we were capturing the misty Blue Ridge Mountains or small-town Tennessee, each shot had to earn it place on the roll. There’s no spray-and-pray here—just one frame at a time, like Dad always said.
The Airstream became our mobile studio and home. With its vintage vibes, it fit the film project perfectly. As we toured, snapping away at sunrises, mountain views, and all the quirky roadside stops, we slowed down and really took it all in—just the way film demands.
Cheers to road trips and film rolls,
Steve
