Helping Speedy Morman Survive for Complex.com
Helping Speedy Morman Survive The “Vomit Comet” & Become an Astronaut in Zero Gravity for Jobs Unlisted on Complex.com
Being an astronaut is not for everyone and micro gravity does have a habit of sorting who has what it takes to function in space. I’ve often heard astronauts say that parabolic flights are harder on the system than the weightlessness of orbit.
I shot for Complex.com recently with Speedy Norman where he tests his grit as an astronaut. Watch the video below to find out how he did.
The Zero-G "Vomit Comet" is certainly not for everyone. On the Season 3 premiere of "Jobs Unlisted," Speedy takes on the difficulties of becoming an astronaut—from performing a space walk, to landing a NASA spacecraft, and even a tailspin simulator—but it's zero gravity that poses the biggest challenge. Is the job of an Astronaut as glamorous as one might think? Check out the episode and decide for yourself.
PS fast forward to 15:39 to see my foot-assist!

Fun with Frames - Smart Mirror from ACEP
I spent a great day highlighting why the Smart Mirror device is a far superior, modern option for opticians to take measurements for your eyeglasses. Especially in these Covid times where proximity is an issue. Thank-you Marisol, Kelly and Fransisco for being such great models.

Forest Walk - A Personal Project
In the middle of August during a getaway in the Airstream and, living up the the saying that only mad-dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun, I went for a very hot and sticky forest walk with my son, yes during the afternoon heat.
We needed to shower off and cool down after this one, it was slightly humid at 96f/35.6c, feels like 103f/39.4c. Can you find the monkey hiding in the tree? Hint: it’s not a real monkey, but apparently we have them in Florida. Apparently, there are several locations with monkeys in Florida, Silver Springs has quite a population.
And there are actually monkeys living by Fort Lauderdale International Airport. A whole family with an adopted raccoon! #onlyinFlorida
Shooting in Denver Colorado for Transdev
This week I'm finishing up the edit for @transdevgroup and our shoot in Denver, CO.
Ive been working with the Transdev team to demonstrate how they are keeping passengers moving and safe during the Covid pandemic. It was incredible to see them work.
The drivers, cleaners, dispatch staff and maintenance crews at all public transportation facilities are among many essential, front-line workers whose services to the community are easy to overlook. I'm happy to spotlight how these individuals help improve our communities with their work.
This is the first of a few upcoming jobs for TransDev that I have coming up, I will post more of the results here. Watch this space!
Working through Covid-19 and Ready to Rock n Roll
Working in the COVID-19 world…
The current pandemic is changing the way we all live our lives and the way we work.
Remote Shooting with screen sharing and on set camera..
I have made all the necessary preparations for photo shoots in the COVID-19 world. The video above was shot during a portrait session for Bucknell University, all crew confirmed that they had been practicing social distancing for three weeks minimum, and were taking full safety measures. Face masks and disposable booties were worn at all times, we washed our hands and/or hand sanitized frequently. We followed the Recommendations for Clean & Healthy Production Sets by Film Florida.
Luckily I have worked remotely with overseas clients in the past, this set up now takes on new importance due to COVID-19, but the industry in general will also benefit. Bucknell staffers were able to monitor the shoot in real time from their home-offices, both as the shots came in and as it was being set up.
The Client was able to edit and monitor the shoot remotely in real time.
So…
When you are ready to come back, I’m ready to rock ‘n’ roll. With face masks, hand sanitizer and the ability to live stream shoots.
There will be so many stories to tell, let me help you tell them!
Taking Self-isolation to the Next Level
During our time of self isolation a gracious friend invited us to use their cabin. Located in the middle of Ocala National Forest, the location lends itself to extreme self-isolation.

My Work Featured in Professional Photographers of America Magazine
If you follow my blog, you may know that I am one of the “faces of the PPA” (Professional Photographers of America). You’d know this because I shamelessly plugged the fact in a blog post back in September 2018.
Well I am happy to say that I was also recently featured in the Professional Photographers of America Magazine, specifically, the March 2020 edition.
The article covers many aspects of my work and my approach to commercial photography, marketing etc.
Thank you Amanda Arnold for the write up and thank you to the PPA for the continued support.
Photographing the Warbirds, Ten Years Later
One of my favorite shoots was my “Warbirds Project” which I cannot believe was almost ten years ago. So when my model, Mattie walked in the room for a recent Zero G flight I was totally excited. To commemorate the moment I restaged one of her shots from the original story with the Zero Gravity Aircraft, G-Force One.
Rosie-the-riveter Mattie, meet Astronaut Mattie!!
The Eye in "Shot with One Eye" - Literally, the eye ball.
Squeamish Alert!
This post contains images of my body parts! No not the weird ones…
During a recent trip to the optometrist they imaged my eyes. I couldn't resist but get a copy of the images of my eyeballs!
One of these is the Eye in “Shot with One Eye”
There's also a video for those of you with a strong stomach (I’m thinking of you Zero G folks.)
NASCAR - Homestead International Speedway 2019
When I was offered the chance to go to a NASCAR race, with access to the pit lane, premium seating and a tailgate party, I absolutely couldn't resist!
I'm a petrol head but have never been to a NASCAR event, so I was extremely excited about this opportunity. I decided to shoot with vintage Russian lenses and I absolutely love the results.
I hope you enjoy the images as much as I do, I really love the look of the vintage Russian glass.

Personal project - Blighty
From the Archive…
I found this collection of images again recently and I love it. These images are from a summer I spent in the Midlands of England back in 2011, shooting from car windows, during dog walks, in the midst of late evening BBQ’s and other perfectly English summer activities. You can also see the gallery in the personal work section.
Enjoy..

A Nice Video on the MIT Media Lab Zero Gravity Flight
Back in March 2018 I posted about a really cool Zero Gravity Flight I worked on for MIT Media Lab. See the original post here.
I recently came across this video that shows what a research flight looks like and how the experiments look in Zero Gravity. Also my mug is all over the video as I float around taking shooting stills of the science!
Enjoy, Steve

Zero G Proposal in the Washington Post
When Mollie Bloudoff-Indelicato called me a few weeks before her Zero Gravity flight in Washington DC, I could tell that she left no detail to chance. Mollie, a freelance journalist, was secretly planning to propose to Greg Linch, a software engineer, and wanted to make sure I was ready to capture the moment.
We hatched a plan ahead of time, ensuring that come flight-day there would be no need to communicate further and risk giving the game away to Greg.
I don’t know if Mollie realized but in the heat of the excitement that is a zero gravity flight, she proposed a few parabolas early! Luckily I had a keen eye on the couple and was conscious of her getting ready to pop the question, so positioned myself at the ready.
Take a look at the proposal images here …
The Washington Post wrote about the proposal, the article is here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/a-most-unusual-marriage-proposal-floating-weightless-in-a-plummeting-plane/2019/10/22/e0d1d716-f4d9-11e9-8cf0-4cc99f74d127_story.html
Lastly the hilarious ladies desperately trying to stay out of the way center frame, are mother and daughter, Gundy and Kristin, who in my opinion are fantastic! :)
Enjoy.

Medtronic - HVAD Patients
Real Patients - Real Stories
I have been shooting for Medtronic for three years at their annual patient summit. Photographing Medtronic’s patients is an incredible experience. There are always tears shed, both of sorrow and joy. Hearing the patient stories and spending time with a group whom without the HVAD, wouldn’t be with us, makes for an incredible day of laughs and lessons. This year we created a series of lifestyle images to demonstrate how patients can live normal active lives with the HVAD.
Making someone that has just survived heart surgery feel comfortable in front of a camera and with a photo crew looking on is always challenging. Without fail though, the patients and I are laughing and joking within a minute, which is a pure testament to the patients resolve.
HVAD - What the what??
For those of you (like me) who have no idea what an HVAD is allow me to enlighten you and at the same time, introduce a group that each year, continues teach me about living life to the fullest and cherishing each day. Enjoy the images!
So what is an HVAD? Here’s the description from the Medtronic site
“A ventricular assist device (VAD) is a mechanical pump. When one of the heart’s natural pumps (a ventricle) does not perform well, a VAD is used to increase the amount of blood that flows through the body. Having a VAD implant allows most people with advanced heart failure to return to a fuller life.”
A small part in making the Google PixelbookGo Commercial in Zero G

It takes a big team to pull off this kind of work, I was but a small cog in the wheel, but it was great fun helping to make this commercial a reality. My job was part of the A-camera team and mostly involved hugging @paulgramaglia to keep him and the camera steady. #noteasy
A-Cam team, cleaning up our act and the set/plane-interior prior to shooting. It takes a family!!
Great crew from South Florida and beyond…
AeroKool Aviation - The Coolest Part of the Airplane
The Coolest Part of the Airplane, pun intended!
Aerokool make magic machines, at least that’s what it looks like to me. Any regular reader of my blog knows I’m a nerd for interesting tech. Well AeroKool make plenty to keep me nerdy.
Explained to me as “the thing that keeps the oxygen masks from being deployed”, Aerokool make airframe environmental control systems, heat transfer, oil & fuel pumping systems. I shot team portraits and product shots at their facility, including a shot during live testing of a heat exchanger. This piece of magic takes in the hot air from the aircraft turbine and spits out freezing cold air at mind boggling rates. The later of which cools and most importantly, pressurizes the cabin while we’re drinking bad coffee and munching on a Biscoff. As long as this piece of equipment keeps silently being a badass then the aforementioned oxygen masks stay firmly in their place!
Miccosukee Tribe - Indian Village
The most fun day shooting EV-ERRR!
When McClatchy Creative Lab contacted me about a project for the Miccosukee Tribe I was thrilled. I couldn’t have imagined that it was going to be this much fun though. We were given access the Tribe’s Indian Village including guides, airboats and the typical hammock-style camp which has airboat access only.
We got great images shooting from boat to boat (see the video for more). Elvis our chief guide was incredible, helping us logistically and driving the airboats at high speeds as we took the production out into the swamp.
Here are some behind-the-scenes images below to show off the shenanigans.

Miccosukee Gaming Resort

The Campaign is live now!
Are you feeling lucky??!!
Part of a continuing project with McClatchy Creative Lab and the Miccosukee Tribe was a recent shoot at the Miccosukee Gaming Resort. Never before has a shoot of mine been so closely monitored!
Working on a live casino floor comes with its challenges. From managing guest privacy and impact on their experience to the not so obvious security concerns that all casinos share to protect themselves against… cheaters! I am grateful to everyone at the Gaming resort for their help and patience during our time shooting in the facility.
Shame @thesusandean and @jean_vito29 were only fake gambling, I think we could have WON BIG!!!
